Vietjet Orders 100 A321neos, 92 Rolls‑Royce Engines
Vietjet placed a firm order for 100 Airbus A321neo jets, a deal Bloomberg and Forbes estimate at roughly $25–29 billion, bringing its total A321neo commitment to 280 with an option for 50 more as part of an accelerated fleet modernization and network-expansion plan. The airline also signed a US$3.8 billion agreement with Rolls‑Royce for 92 Trent 7000 engines plus maintenance services to power its 40‑aircraft A330neo backlog, supporting future non‑stop services to Europe. Both deals were formalized amid high‑level Vietnam–UK diplomatic engagements, including Vietnam’s General Secretary To Lam’s visit and a Vietnam–UK High‑Level Economic Conference in London, coinciding with the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The UK aerospace sector is set to benefit through A320neo wing work in Bristol and north Wales and investment at Rolls‑Royce’s Derby facility, with the government saying the agreements will support thousands of jobs. Vietjet described the purchases as symbols of national pride and sustainable development; Airbus highlighted the A321neo’s efficiency, noise reductions and compatibility with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel today, targeting up to 100% SAF by around 2030.
