Vale, Caterpillar Sign Framework Agreement for Mining Decarbonization

Brazilian mining giant Vale has entered into a five-year global framework agreement with Caterpillar to enhance their collaboration on productivity, innovation, and carbon reduction initiatives. This partnership focuses on the development of a dual-fuel haul truck that operates on a blend of diesel and ethanol, aimed at significantly reducing Vale's greenhouse gas emissions, which currently stem largely from diesel fuel use. Initial testing of the dual-fuel technology will occur at Caterpillar's facilities, with plans for further validation at Vale's operations. The agreement is part of a broader strategy to adopt sustainable technologies, including testing Caterpillar's battery electric haul truck and Dynamic Energy Transfer System. Vale's procurement director highlighted that this collaboration is a critical step toward their decarbonization goals while maintaining operational efficiency.
