Acronis Reports 197% Surge in Email Cyberattacks Across Regions

Acronis's biannual Cyberthreats Report for H2 2024 reveals a staggering 197% increase in email cyberattacks compared to the same period in 2023, with nearly half of users affected by these threats. Managed service providers (MSPs) are increasingly targeted, particularly by advanced persistent threat (APT) groups utilizing sophisticated methods such as phishing and exploiting vulnerabilities in remote access tools. The report indicates that 31.4% of emails received were spam, and 1.4% contained malware or phishing links, with ransomware cases totaling 1,712 in Q4 2024. The rise of AI-driven threats is highlighted as cybercriminals develop more effective phishing attempts. Acronis blocked over 48 million malicious URLs in Q4 2024, a 7% increase from the previous quarter. Overall, the cybersecurity landscape is becoming more complex and dangerous as organizations prepare for continued challenges in 2025.
