Two Men Convicted After Stolen BMW Crashes Sunderland Care Home, Killing Two

Two men, Reece Parish and Sam Asgari-Tabar, have pleaded guilty to robbing a woman of a BMW, which was then involved in a police chase before crashing into the Highcliffe Care Home in Sunderland. The crash severely damaged the care home and injured eight residents, including one who suffered spinal fractures. Two elderly residents, a woman in her 80s and another in her 90s, died shortly after the incident, though the police have confirmed no criminal charges will be brought against the men in relation to these deaths. Asgari-Tabar also admitted to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, while kidnap charges against both men related to the woman in the car have been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. The men were remanded in custody and are set to be sentenced on October 17, with pre-sentence reports ordered by Judge Robert Spragg. Police described the incident as reckless and praised the investigation leading to the men’s guilty pleas.
