Deadliest Catch Deckhand Nick Mavar Dies at 59
Nick Mavar, a longtime star of the Discovery Channel's 'Deadliest Catch,' died at 59 following a medical emergency in Naknek, Alaska. Mavar was a respected deckhand on the F/V Northwestern and featured in 98 episodes over 17 seasons, as well as several spin-offs. He left the show in 2020 after his appendix ruptured, leading to a lawsuit against Captain Sig Hansen for inadequate medical care during the pandemic, with Hansen shifting the blame to the show's production company. Mavar's death has deeply affected the fishing community, with many tributes pouring in from fans and colleagues. He spent his final years captaining his own salmon boat in Bristol Bay. The Bristol Bay Borough Police Department is conducting an investigation, but details of the medical emergency remain undisclosed.
