Former Prison Officer Jailed for 21 Months for Misconduct with Inmate

Katie Evans, a 26-year-old former prison officer, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with inmate Daniel Brownley at HMP Doncaster. Judge Jeremy Richardson described her as 'manipulated' by Brownley, an experienced criminal, shortly after she began her career at the prison. The court revealed that Evans had over 140 phone calls with Brownley, moved money for him, and provided confidential information about him. Although she admitted to an 'intimate' relationship, it remains unclear if she accepted its sexual nature. Judge Richardson emphasized her youth and inexperience at the time of the offenses and noted that her misconduct significantly disrupted prison order. He reduced her sentence out of mercy, considering the impact on her young daughter and her future as a former officer.
