The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged two GST officials, Superintendent V.D. Anand Kumar and Inspector Manish Sharma, with extortion and bribery in Hyderabad. Allegedly, the officials demanded Rs 5 lakh from a businessman, threatening to impose GST over alleged irregularities and seizing his iron scrap shop. The CBI's investigation revealed that the officers further demanded an additional Rs 3 lakh to release the seized premises. Following the complaint, the CBI executed searches at two locations in Hyderabad, recovering incriminating documents related to the case. This incident highlights ongoing issues of corruption within tax enforcement agencies in India. The investigation is currently ongoing as the CBI continues to gather evidence.
