Dozens Charged After Cardiff Riot

Following the deaths of Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15, in a May 2023 e-bike crash, a total of 31 individuals have been charged in connection with riots that erupted in Cardiff's Ely area. The crash occurred shortly after CCTV footage showed the teenagers being followed by a South Wales Police van, leading to public unrest where crowds clashed with police, resulting in injuries and property damage. Recently, 13 defendants appeared in court, with some pleading guilty to various charges, including riot and criminal damage. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the police's interaction with the boys prior to their deaths. The trial for the youths charged with riot is set for December 16, while other defendants are scheduled for additional hearings.
