Grand Prairie ISD Closes Schools Amid Water Contamination

Grand Prairie ISD has closed schools due to contamination of the city's water supply by a foaming agent used in firefighting. The contamination, which affected an estimated 60,000 residents, was linked to a backflow event during a fire extinguishing operation, leading city officials to advise against using tap water for drinking, cooking, or bathing. Residents were instructed to flush their water lines and ensure their household plumbing was safe. While bottled water distribution has been initiated, the school district is also providing grab-and-go lunches during the closure. Mayor Ron Jensen emphasized the importance of addressing the issue swiftly while prioritizing public safety. City officials are testing the water and hope to lift the advisory soon, using this incident to improve future safety protocols.
