India, Malaysia Repatriate Nationals from Myanmar Scams

Efforts to combat human trafficking and cybercrime syndicates in Southeast Asia have recently resulted in the repatriation of hundreds of victims. Malaysia successfully repatriated 25 Malaysians from Myanmar, where they were trapped in job scams, marking the second such rescue operation this year. Meanwhile, India rescued 549 of its citizens who were lured by fake job offers into cybercrime operations, mainly from Myanmar's Myawaddy region, using Indian Air Force aircraft to facilitate their return. These operations are part of a broader crackdown on scam centers along the Myanmar-Thailand border, pressured by China and involving multinational cooperation. The Indian government continues to warn potential job seekers to verify foreign employment offers to avoid falling victim to such scams. The rescues highlight the dire conditions in which victims were held, with reports of abuse and inhumane treatment.
