Blockchain.com Gains MiCA License to Expand Crypto Services Across 30 European Countries
Blockchain.com has secured a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) license through the Malta Financial Services Authority, allowing it to offer crypto custody, wallet, and institutional services across all 30 European Economic Area countries under a unified regulatory framework. This license enables Blockchain.com to consolidate its previously fragmented European operations and positions it as one of the first major crypto firms to fully operate under the new EU framework. Malta was chosen as the hub for Blockchain.com's European operations due to its regulatory clarity, strategic location, and forward-looking approach to crypto regulation, which contrasts with other EU countries favoring tighter centralized supervision. To lead its European expansion, Blockchain.com appointed Fiorentina D’Amore, chairperson of the Financial Institutions Malta Association, who brings extensive experience in regulatory compliance and crypto industry leadership. The MiCA framework is the EU's first comprehensive regulatory regime for digital assets, aiming to foster responsible innovation, consumer protection, and long-term market stability. Blockchain.com plans to leverage this regulatory milestone to advance innovation and scale its services across Europe, including launching new MiCA-compliant products.
