England beat South Africa by 10 wickets in Guwahati
England opened their Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 campaign with a 10-wicket win over South Africa in Guwahati after bowling the Proteas out for 69, the side's second-lowest World Cup total. Left-arm spinner Linsey Smith led the attack with 3/7, while Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean took two wickets apiece and skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt finished 2/5; Lauren Bell also removed Sune Luus as South Africa slipped to 19 for 4 and were all out in 20.4 overs. Only wicketkeeper-batter Sinalo Jafta reached double figures with 22, and extras — including eight wides — were the second-highest contribution to the total. Amy Jones (40*) and Tammy Beaumont (21*) then chased the modest target without loss in 14.1 overs. The result underlined England’s ruthless spin bowling on a pitch offering significant grip.
