In a significant move to enhance medical education accessibility, both Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have announced the introduction of Hindi as a medium of instruction in their medical colleges starting from the academic session 2024-25. Rajasthan's initiative, led by the Medical Education Department, will first be implemented at Dr Sampurnanand Medical College and Barmer Medical College, allowing students to choose between English and Hindi. Similarly, Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized the importance of this decision on Hindi Diwas, citing its alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to promote Hindi in professional courses. This policy change aims to assist students from rural and tribal backgrounds who struggle with English, thereby fostering a better understanding of medical subjects. Both states are responding to the National Education Policy 2020, which encourages teaching in regional languages to improve educational outcomes.
