Fifteen Percent Pledge Gala Celebrates Black Entrepreneurship, Awards $400,000

The Fourth Annual Fifteen Percent Pledge Gala took place at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, celebrating Black entrepreneurship and raising funds for businesses affected by the recent wildfires. Hosted by Yvonne Orji, the event awarded $400,000 in grants, including a $50,000 donation to Barbara Shay of The Little Red Hen Coffee Shop, which was destroyed in the Eaton fire. The gala underscored the Fifteen Percent Pledge's mission to encourage major retailers to dedicate 15% of their purchasing power to Black-owned businesses, having already shifted $14 billion since its inception. Attendees included celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, and Ciara, all donning Black designers as they celebrated Black creativity and excellence. The evening featured a vegan menu crafted by chef Marcus Samuelsson and lively entertainment, highlighting the resilience and vibrancy of the Black community. The event not only provided immediate financial support but also aimed to raise awareness about the importance of investing in Black-owned businesses.
