Exelmoto, an Indian electric mobility startup founded by automotive designer Akshai Varde, is launching a new category of pedal-assist electric bikes that combine motorcycle-inspired styling with the convenience and fitness benefits of cycles. Backed by celebrities Suniel Shetty, KL Rahul, and Ahan Shetty, the brand aims to deliver aspirational, stylish, and sustainable commuting options for urban and semi-urban India. The company opened pre-orders on June 28 for a limited batch of 999 units priced under ₹42,000, featuring removable lithium batteries, fat tires, and ranges of 40-60 km per charge, all without the need for registration or a license. Exelmoto’s bikes are distinct from traditional e-scooters, focusing on reducing carbon footprints while offering one of the lowest costs per kilometer in the segment. The launch campaign highlights the blend of performance, style, and sustainability, targeting younger consumers seeking a fresh approach to electric commuting. Founders emphasize the product as a proudly Indian innovation with a vision to redefine how India rides, leveraging celebrity trust and design-first thinking to scale electric mobility.
