Manchester City beat Villarreal 2-0; Haaland, Silva score
Manchester City beat Villarreal 2-0 in their Champions League group game, with Erling Haaland opening the scoring and captain Bernardo Silva adding a first-half header after Rico Lewis helped the build-ups. Haaland extended his scoring run to 12 successive matches, moved into the Champions League top 10 with 53 goals and has 24 goals in 14 outings for club and country this season. Pep Guardiola said he welcomed contributions from other players after concerns about over-reliance on Haaland and that City largely controlled the game despite some uncomfortable second-half spells. The victory ended a poor run of away results in European competition, left City unbeaten in nine across all competitions and put them on seven points from three group matches. City's defence and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma preserved the clean sheet as Villarreal applied pressure after the break.
