EA Expands Accessibility Patents with 23 New Tools
Electronic Arts (EA) has expanded its commitment to gaming accessibility by adding 23 new patents to its public library of free accessibility tools, bringing the total to 38 since launching its Patent Pledge in 2021. The newly added technologies include advancements in speech recognition, personalized audio generation, and a plugin for Unreal Engine 5 that assists developers in identifying potentially harmful frames for photosensitive players. With a focus on inclusivity, EA aims to enhance gaming experiences for individuals with speech disabilities and other accessibility challenges. Kerry Hopkins, EA's SVP of Global Affairs, emphasized the company's belief that games should be accessible to everyone and the importance of removing barriers to access. This initiative coincides with the recent International Day of Persons with Disabilities, highlighting the industry's ongoing efforts to improve inclusivity. EA is encouraging other developers to utilize these technologies royalty-free to foster a more inclusive gaming environment.
