Tampa to Host 2029 CFP Championship

News summary

The College Football Playoff announced Raymond James Stadium in Tampa will host the national championship on Jan. 22, 2029. It will be Tampa’s second time staging the CFP title, following the dramatic 2017 Clemson–Alabama championship game. Tampa becomes the fourth city to host the CFP title at least twice, joining Atlanta, New Orleans and Miami Gardens. CFP executive director Rich Clark praised Tampa’s waterfront, downtown and event-hosting record, and local officials pledged to partner with the CFP to deliver a championship experience. The playoff field expanded to 12 last season and officials are discussing possible further expansion to 16 or 24 teams, with a decision expected by Dec. 1. Upcoming CFP title sites include Hard Rock Stadium this season, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in 2027 and New Orleans in 2028.
