Joshua Cheptegei, Alemaddis Eyayu Win Delhi Half Marathon

At the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda claimed victory in the men's elite race with a time of 59 minutes and 46 seconds, while Alemaddis Eyayu of Ethiopia surprised many by defeating pre-race favorite Cynthia Limo to win the women's title. Cheptegei's performance was notable as he shifted focus from track events, having previously won Olympic and world titles in the 10,000m. The race featured fierce competition, with Kenya’s Alex Matata finishing second (59:53) and Nicholas Kipkorir third (59:59). Eyayu completed the women's race in 1 hour 8 minutes and 17 seconds, extending Ethiopia’s winning streak at the event. The marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label Race, offered a total prize purse of $260,000, with impressive performances from both elite and Indian competitors. Cheptegei expressed his joy, highlighting the significance of the event in his ongoing transition to long-distance running.
