Bill Self Denies Interest in OSU Coaching Job

Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self confirmed he spoke with Oklahoma State University (OSU) about their head coaching position last spring but disputes reports that he seriously considered the offer. Berry Tramel of the Tulsa World reported that OSU, Self's alma mater, was confident in their offer, which included a competitive salary and budget. Self refuted this, clarifying he has not spent a night in Stillwater, Oklahoma, for reasons other than a game in 20 years and emphasized his discussions were more advisory than seriously considering the position. Ultimately, Self remained with Kansas, where he has been head coach since 2003, and OSU hired Steve Lutz as head coach. These reports have emerged amidst a challenging season for Kansas, which is performing below its usual standards.
