Sri Lanka Hosts New Zealand in 1st ODI
Sri Lanka and New Zealand are set to face off in the first ODI of their three-match series on November 13, 2024, at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Sri Lanka, coming off a successful Test series and a recent T20 draw, will be captained by Charith Asalanka and aims to leverage its home advantage despite missing key player Wanindu Hasaranga due to injury. New Zealand, led by Mitchell Santner, enters the ODI series bolstered by debutants Nathan Smith, Tim Robinson, and wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay, while also coping with the absence of star pacer Lockie Ferguson due to a calf injury. Historically, New Zealand has had the upper hand in ODIs against Sri Lanka, but the home team is determined to continue its strong performance from previous series. The other two ODIs will take place at Pallekele on November 17 and 19, 2024. This series serves as a crucial preparation for New Zealand ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy, which Sri Lanka has not qualified for.
