Irreplaceable Eagle Lectern Stolen From Devon Church, Police Investigate
A hand-carved wooden eagle, believed to be an irreplaceable antique, was stolen from a lectern at St Paul's Church in Yelverton, Devon. The sculpture was sawn off the lectern on a Monday evening, with clear signs of sawing found on the carpet. Rev Andrew Thomas, the vicar, described the theft as deeply sad and upsetting, emphasizing the church's efforts to maintain an inclusive and welcoming environment. Devon and Cornwall Police are actively investigating the incident and have appealed to the public for any information or CCTV footage that may assist in locating the stolen eagle. Sgt Tom Ottley urged anyone who witnessed suspicious behavior or has relevant footage to come forward. Rev Thomas encouraged people to contact the police if they see anyone carrying the eagle, highlighting the community's hope for its safe return.
