XPeng Partners with Plugsurfing for 940,000 European EV Chargers

Chinese EV manufacturer XPeng Motors has partnered with Plugsurfing to grant its European customers access to over 940,000 charging points across 27 countries, enhancing its footprint in the continent with one of the largest EV charging networks. This collaboration integrates Plugsurfing’s Drive API into XPeng’s in-car system and mobile app, enabling users to access real-time charger availability, pricing, remote start/stop functions, and convenient payment options, tailored to regional driving preferences through features like smart filtering, long-distance trip planning, and voice-enabled search. The partnership supports XPeng’s ongoing expansion in Europe, where it currently operates in 16 countries, including Germany, France, the UK, and the Nordics, with plans to enter Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. XPeng aims to localize the EV experience by combining advanced technology and infrastructure partnerships, targeting over 60 markets worldwide by 2025 and generating half of its revenue overseas. This move follows XPeng’s earlier strategic agreements, such as the mutual ultra-fast charging network sharing with Volkswagen in China, and reflects the company's ambition to strengthen its competitive position amid growing EV adoption challenges like range anxiety. While XPeng benefits from Plugsurfing’s extensive network and user-friendly charging features, reliance on third-party infrastructure poses risks related to service reliability and market differentiation.
