Beverly Hills Cop Among 25 Films Added to Registry
The Library of Congress has announced the inclusion of 25 films in its National Film Registry for 2024, highlighting works of 'cultural, historic or aesthetic importance.' Notable entries include Eddie Murphy's 'Beverly Hills Cop,' which solidified his status as a major film star, and the romantic classic 'Dirty Dancing,' which addressed social issues while captivating audiences. Other significant films added are 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,' 'The Social Network,' and 'No Country for Old Men.' The oldest film selected is the silent 'Annabelle Serpentine Dance' from 1895, while the most recent is 'The Social Network' from 2010. This year's selections bring the total number of films in the registry to 900, with a special airing on Turner Classic Movies to celebrate the additions. Public nominations for future entries are ongoing through the Library's website.
