Renault Shares EV Fire Safety Tech Globally

Renault Group has introduced the 'Fireman Access' system, a safety innovation designed to allow emergency responders to extinguish electric vehicle (EV) battery fires in minutes rather than hours. This technology, developed in collaboration with fire services, involves an adhesive disc that can be dislodged by water pressure to directly douse battery cells, preventing thermal runaway. Renault has made this patented system freely available to the global automotive industry under a free licensing policy, encouraging other manufacturers to share any improvements. This initiative aligns with Renault's commitment to improving road safety and is part of a broader effort to enhance EV safety through collaboration. Meanwhile, new infrastructure, including a specialized fire station near Panasonic's EV battery plant in Kansas City, is being developed to address potential EV battery fire risks. The fire station will accommodate larger fire trucks and specially trained firefighters, reflecting the growing industrial investments in the area.
