England's James Anderson Knighted After Historic 704-Test Wicket Career
James Anderson, England's legendary fast bowler, was knighted by Princess Anne at Windsor Castle in recognition of his extraordinary cricket career spanning 22 years. Anderson retired from Test cricket in July 2025, holding the record for the most Test wickets by a pace bowler with 704 wickets, and is also England's leading wicket-taker in ODIs with 269 wickets. He made his Test debut at Lord's in 2003 and concluded his career at the same venue after playing 188 Test matches, the most by any English player and second only to Sachin Tendulkar globally. Known for his mastery of swing and seam bowling, Anderson is celebrated as one of England's greatest cricketers, joining an elite group of knighthood recipients including Sir Ian Botham and Sir Alastair Cook. Despite retiring from international cricket, he continues to play domestically for Lancashire and is negotiating a contract extension through the 2026 season. Anderson was the sole sportsperson included in former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's resignation honours list, which also recognized other notable public figures.
