Multiple School-Bus Incidents Across U.S. and Kerala
A series of school-bus incidents occurred this week across the U.S. and in Kerala, India, ranging from minor collisions to a rollover and a bus that crashed into a compound wall. In Timonium, Md., a school bus collided with a car at Eastridge and Medbury Roads; the other vehicle’s driver was taken to the hospital and no students were injured. In Groveport, Ohio, a school bus rear-ended a Honda around 8:10 a.m., pushing it into another vehicle; a mother and child from the Honda were evaluated and listed as stable, and no students were on the bus. In Toledo, a work truck scraped a Toledo Public Schools bus, breaking three windows; three students were aboard and none were injured. In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, a VPS Malankara Higher Secondary School bus reportedly suffered mechanical failure while descending an incline and rammed a compound wall, injuring 20 students — 16 were discharged and four were treated at the General Hospital, with one later transferred to Government Medical College Hospital — and police have registered a case and opened an investigation. In Pendleton County, Kentucky, a single-vehicle school bus lost control and flipped multiple times on Kentucky Route 330 near J.H. Godman Road around 5:45 a.m.; no students were aboard, the driver sustained minor injuries, the monitor was more seriously injured and both were hospitalized, and investigators have not determined the cause.
