Ex-Tory MP Katie Wallis Charged False Passport During Term

Katie Wallis, Britain's first openly transgender MP, appeared in Cardiff Crown Court charged with possessing a false passport while serving as the Conservative MP for Bridgend from 2019 to 2024. The alleged offense occurred in April 2022 during her time in Parliament. Wallis, who uses female pronouns and was previously known as Jamie Wallis, chose to represent herself in court. The charge was not read out during the hearing, and the case was adjourned by Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke to allow Wallis to consider obtaining legal advice or continuing self-representation. Wallis was released on bail and is scheduled to appear again on August 15. The case has drawn attention due to Wallis's historic status as the first transgender MP in the UK Parliament.
