The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to safeguard educational institutions across the country by launching the School Protection Squad (SPS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, amidst growing concerns over security threats. The initiative, led by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, aims to enhance collaboration between the police, security agencies, and local communities to create a secure environment for students and teachers. During a recent strategic stakeholders forum, FCT Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh assured that no attacks on schools have been reported in the area and emphasized the command's commitment to maintaining safety, particularly in rural regions. The forum also serves as a platform for training and capacity building for the SPS, reinforcing the government's dedication to protecting the right to education. Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to foster a secure learning environment.
