Cranston Man Charged After Self-Inflicted Shooting
During a weekend celebration of St. Mary’s Feast in Cranston, a bar fight escalated into a shooting incident, leaving 28-year-old Michael Mancini with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his leg. The police, who were on a security detail at 39 West Restaurant and Lounge, heard a gunshot around 11:20 p.m. and intervened in the altercation, where Mancini was found refusing to release his weapon and resisting arrest. After subduing him, officers rendered immediate medical aid before he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he awaits arraignment on multiple charges, including carrying a pistol without a license and possession of cocaine. Police Chief Michael Winquist praised the officers for their quick actions that likely saved lives. The bar remains closed following the incident while authorities continue to investigate and gather witness video footage.
