Wife of Weezer Bassist Avoids Jail After Shooting at LAPD in Diversion Program

Jillian Lauren, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, avoided jail time after being granted a two-year mental health diversion program by a Los Angeles judge following an incident where she fired a gun at LAPD officers. The officers were pursuing suspects involved in a hit-and-run near Lauren's Eagle Rock home when she opened fire, mistaking the police for armed criminals. She was wounded when officers returned fire, but no one else was hurt. The diversion program requires Lauren to abstain from drugs and alcohol, surrender her firearms, attend weekly counseling and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and comply with random drug testing. If she completes the program successfully, the charges against her—including attempted murder—will be dismissed.
