Five Iranian Security Forces Killed in Terror Attack

On Sunday, five members of Iran's Basij volunteer force were killed in a terrorist attack in the Sirkan district of Saravan, located in the Sistan-Baluchistan province, an area troubled by unrest and clashes with drug traffickers and extremists. Iranian security forces swiftly deployed to pursue the attackers following the incident, which is part of a larger pattern of violence faced by the region, including a previous attack on October 26 that claimed the lives of ten police officers. The group Jaish Al-Adl, a Sunni jihadist organization based in Pakistan and designated as a terrorist group by Iran and the U.S., has been implicated in similar attacks in the past. In the aftermath of the recent violence, Iranian forces have reportedly killed fifteen militants and arrested over thirty suspects. The IRGC confirmed the casualties and indicated that a manhunt is underway for the perpetrators. The region, predominantly Sunni in a Shiite-majority country, has long struggled with poverty and insecurity.
