College Students at Risk as Online Gambling Increases

Sports betting has been legalized across 36 and 38 states and has caused an increase in gambling among young men, particularly college students. Problem gambling is particularly prevalent among young men ages 18 to 44 and can lead to mental health problems. Addiction rates have surged due to easy access to online gambling, which has become increasingly popular, especially among sportsbooks. The easy accessibility has caused an increase in calls to gambling helplines, with a significant rise in calls from Ohio. Additionally, college students are more likely to have a gambling problem compared to the general adult population.
