The Q in the Lou barbecue festival in St. Louis, scheduled for September 6-8, has been canceled due to insufficient ticket sales and lack of corporate sponsorships, according to festival organizers. Sean Hadley noted that recent low attendance at other festivals contributed to their decision, emphasizing that support for the event was lacking. Despite the cancellation, other recent events in downtown St. Louis, such as the Festival of Nations and Blues at the Arch, have seen significant attendance increases, with Blues at the Arch drawing 15,000 visitors—a 22% rise from the previous year. Local officials expressed disappointment over the festival's cancellation, highlighting its potential to boost tourism and downtown revitalization. Although safety was mentioned as a concern by sponsors, organizers insisted that crime was not a factor in the cancellation decision. The Gateway Arch Park Foundation is set to proceed with preparations for upcoming events, aiming to maintain the momentum of successful gatherings.
