Vijay Shankar Leaves Tamil Nadu Joins Tripura Cricket Team

Vijay Shankar, the former Tamil Nadu cricket captain, has ended his 13-year tenure with the state team to join Tripura for the 2025-26 domestic season, securing a No Objection Certificate from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. This move comes after Shankar was rested from several matches in the 2024-25 season despite strong performances, including two centuries in the Ranji Trophy and a career-best 150 not out in the Buchi Babu Tournament. Shankar has amassed 3,142 runs in 81 Ranji innings at an average of 44.25, along with 43 wickets, and has led Tamil Nadu to victories in the Vijay Hazare, Deodhar, and Syed Mushtaq Ali trophies. Tripura will also feature Hanuma Vihari, who recently joined the team, aiming to strengthen their squad across all formats. Tamil Nadu's head coach acknowledged Shankar's immense contributions and indicated that his departure opens opportunities for younger players. This transfer reflects a strategic transition within Tamil Nadu cricket, with Shankar seeking more consistent playing opportunities and a fresh challenge in Tripura.
