Balcony Collapse in Naples Kills Two, Injures Thirteen

A tragic balcony collapse in the Scampia district of Naples resulted in two fatalities and 13 injuries, including seven children. The incident occurred on Monday night when the third-floor balcony of the Vela Celeste residential complex detached from the building, leading to a catastrophic fall onto lower balconies. The deceased include 29-year-old Roberto Abbruzzo, who died instantly, and 35-year-old Margherita della Ragione, who succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Of the injured, two children are reported to be in critical condition. Local officials are investigating the cause of the collapse, which raises concerns over the dilapidated state of similar buildings in the area, many of which are part of an urban renewal plan. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi expressed his condolences and highlighted the ongoing rescue efforts.
