Giants Eye Kafka for Play-Calling Role If He Stays

Mike Kafka, the New York Giants' offensive coordinator, is a finalist for the head coaching position with the New Orleans Saints, and if he does not secure that role, there is strong sentiment within the Giants organization for him to regain play-calling duties from head coach Brian Daboll. Under Daboll's leadership, the Giants' offense struggled significantly in 2024, finishing 31st in scoring, which has prompted discussions about whether Daboll should continue calling plays. Co-owner John Mara has indicated that the organization is considering whether it might be beneficial for Daboll to delegate that responsibility back to Kafka. Kafka previously called plays during the Giants' more successful 2022 season when the team made the playoffs, but his role diminished in 2024. General manager Joe Schoen expressed hope that Kafka would remain with the Giants, highlighting his qualifications and leadership abilities. Kafka is currently coaching the National team at the Senior Bowl while pursuing the Saints job, with indications that he has had strong interviews with New Orleans.
