Virginia Democrats Prepare for Senate Primary Election

The Democratic primary for the special election to fill the 32nd District seat in the Virginia Senate will take place on November 16, with six candidates running for the nomination following incumbent Suhas Subramanyam's election to Congress. Among the candidates are Kannan Srinivasan, Puja Khanna, Sreedhar Nagireddi, Ibraheem Samirah, and Buta Biberaj. The special election to fill Subramanyam's seat is set for January 7, as mandated by Virginia law, which requires elections to be called within 30 days of a vacancy. The Democratic Party currently holds a narrow 21-19 majority in the Senate, making this election critical for maintaining their power. Srinivasan, who represents House District 26 and has significant endorsements, emphasized the importance of winning to protect Democratic values against Republican opposition. Voters can cast their ballots at five designated locations on the day of the primary.
