Modi to Lay Foundation for Vadhvan Port Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Maharashtra to address the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2024 in Mumbai and lay the foundation stone for the Vadhvan Port project in Palghar. The GFF, a major event organized by the Payments Council of India and other key stakeholders, will feature over 800 speakers and launch more than 20 thought leadership reports. The Vadhvan Port, a Rs 76,000 crore project, aims to become one of India's largest deep-water ports, enhancing maritime connectivity and boosting trade. Modi will also inaugurate 218 fisheries projects worth Rs 1,560 crores, expected to generate significant employment in the sector. The port project incorporates sustainable practices and is anticipated to significantly contribute to local economic development. Despite the project's potential, it faces opposition from local fishing communities regarding environmental impacts.
