Louisiana Governor Sues ICE Over TB Exposure

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and ICE, alleging negligence in managing a tuberculosis case involving a Chinese national who illegally entered the U.S. The lawsuit claims that the woman, who was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of tuberculosis, exposed over 200 detainees and staff at several facilities. It seeks a temporary restraining order to prevent ICE from releasing any detainees until they are medically cleared by the Louisiana Department of Health. Officials emphasized the need for enhanced border security and criticized the Biden administration for its handling of illegal immigration and public health risks. Although the patient is currently asymptomatic, treatment may take up to six months. The lawsuit reflects growing concerns over public health safety amid immigration policies.
