Trailer Drops for Cage's Biblical Horror The Carpenter's Son

Magnolia Pictures released the full trailer Oct. 1 for The Carpenter's Son, an R-rated biblical horror film written and directed by Lotfy Nathan that reimagines Jesus' childhood through the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas and Nathan's Coptic background. The film stars Nicolas Cage as Joseph, FKA twigs as Mary and Noah Jupe as a teenage Jesus, with Isla Johnston playing a mysterious child who is revealed in the trailer to be Satan and unleashes violent supernatural events. Nathan also appears in the film. Set in a remote Roman-era Egyptian village, the story frames escalating spiritual warfare as Joseph struggles to protect his family from demonic influence. The trailer's surreal, sometimes grotesque imagery has prompted mixed reactions online and early petitions calling the film blasphemous; the movie opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 14.
