NYPD Officer, Three Others Killed in Midtown Manhattan Shooting

Didarul Islam, a 36-year-old off-duty NYPD officer originally from Bangladesh, was fatally shot while working security during a mass shooting at an office building in Midtown Manhattan. Islam, who had served in the NYPD's Bronx 47th precinct for 3.5 years, leaves behind two young sons and a wife who is pregnant with their third child. The gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura with a documented history of mental health issues, killed four people including Islam before dying by suicide.
