USTA Begins $800M Renovation of Arthur Ashe Stadium, Performance Center
The U.S. Open's venue at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens is set for an $800 million transformation, the largest single investment in the tournament's history, funded entirely by the USTA without public money. The renovation will modernize Arthur Ashe Stadium with a new grand entrance, increased courtside seating, luxury suites, and improved concourses, dining, and retail spaces, while maintaining the stadium's overall capacity near 24,000. A key feature of the project is a $250 million, two-story player performance center adjacent to Ashe Stadium, offering expanded fitness, dining, and spa-like locker room facilities, enhancing both player comfort and performance. The phased construction will avoid disruption of the 2025 and 2026 U.S. Open tournaments and is expected to be completed by 2027. This upgrade continues the USTA's ongoing efforts to enhance fan and player experiences at the venue, following a previous $600 million renovation completed in 2018, and reflects a broader competitive trend among Grand Slam sites to improve facilities and maintain their status in the tennis world. The project is led by Rossetti Architects, which also worked on Ashe Stadium's original construction and recent renovations.
