Mother Dies After Car Strikes Pedestrians in Essex
A tragic accident occurred in Westcliff-on-Sea when a 52-year-old mother was killed and her 23-year-old daughter injured after being struck by a speeding car at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John's Road. Witnesses reported that the black Suzuki Splash mounted the pavement before the collision on December 12 around 5:30 PM. Emergency services responded quickly, but despite their efforts, the mother succumbed to her injuries while her daughter's condition was not life-threatening. The 31-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and being unfit to drive due to drink or drugs. Local authorities and residents expressed their condolences and concerns regarding traffic safety in the area, with plans for community discussions on traffic calming measures underway. Essex Police are appealing for additional information and dashcam footage from the public to assist in their investigation.
