Eluned Morgan Set to Become First Minister of Wales

Eluned Morgan is poised to become Wales' first female First Minister following Vaughan Gething's resignation, which came amidst a series of controversies and the coordinated departure of several cabinet members. The Senedd has been recalled for a special session to vote on her nomination, with the vote scheduled for 11 am today, August 6. Morgan, who was elected leader of Welsh Labour last month, is the sole candidate and is expected to be confirmed in the role, succeeding Gething who faced criticism for accepting donations from a convicted polluter and other issues during his short tenure. The voting process will allow for both in-person and virtual participation, accommodating members who are abroad. If no other nominations arise, she will be declared the nominee, although opposition leaders may still propose their candidates. Morgan has indicated her intention to step back from her role in the House of Lords during her time as First Minister.
