Multiple Governors Order Flags Half-Staff for Charlie Kirk After Utah Shooting
Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and close ally of President Donald Trump, was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University while speaking as part of his American Comeback Tour. The suspected shooter remains at large, and initial reports of arrests have been clarified as mistaken. President Trump mourned Kirk as a leader who deeply understood American youth and ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff until September 14, 2025, as a mark of respect. Several governors, including those of Iowa, North Dakota, and Oklahoma, have followed suit by ordering flags at half-staff in their states and encouraging others to do the same. Political leaders have condemned the violence and called for civil discourse and an end to political violence. Kirk, aged 31, leaves behind a wife and two children, and his death has prompted widespread grief and calls for unity among political figures.
