Korean Animated Film 'King of Kings' Tops $60 Million North America
The animated film 'King of Kings,' directed by Jang Seong-ho, has become the highest-grossing Korean animated film in North America with over $60 million in earnings, surpassing even 'Parasite.' The film, inspired by Charles Dickens' 'The Life of Our Lord,' appeals broadly through themes of love and family, and features notable voice actors such as Kenneth Branagh and Uma Thurman. Following its North American success, it is scheduled for release in about 40 countries, including a South Korean debut in July. Another animated project, 'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' blends K-pop culture with supernatural action and features real South Korean locations, enhancing its authenticity and appeal. Choreographer Lee Jeong, who worked on 'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' highlighted the creative freedom animation provided, allowing for acrobatic and innovative dance sequences that have contributed to the film's international popularity. Additionally, the song “Your Idol” from 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' has transcended the film, becoming a viral cultural phenomenon on social media, inspiring fan choreography and interpretation worldwide.
