A 24-year-old man from Malappuram district, Kerala, has been confirmed to have died from the Nipah virus after showing symptoms of encephalitis. The individual, who had recently returned from Bengaluru, passed away on September 9, and health authorities acted promptly after a PCR test at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital confirmed the infection. Following the confirmation, Health Minister Veena George announced that 151 primary contacts have been identified and are under isolation, with five showing mild symptoms. Strict containment measures have been initiated, including the formation of 16 committees to monitor the situation. This incident marks the second Nipah-related death in Kerala this year, highlighting ongoing public health concerns in the region. Past outbreaks in Kerala have raised alarms, and authorities are determined to prevent further infections.
