R.E.M. Scores Re-release of Sherlock Jr.

The classic silent film Sherlock Jr., originally released in 1924, will be re-released in theaters with a new soundtrack featuring music from R.E.M.'s albums Monster (1994) and New Adventures in Hi-Fi (1996). This event is part of the Silents Synced series, which pairs modern music with silent films, and is set to premiere on February 1, 2025, in Athens, Georgia, before opening in select theaters on February 4. R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck expressed his admiration for Buster Keaton, stating he is honored to collaborate with him posthumously. The trailer for the film features R.E.M.'s track “Star 69” alongside clips from Sherlock Jr. The re-release celebrates the film's 101st anniversary and aims to attract new audiences to cinemas by blending music and film experiences. This initiative follows previous successful pairings, such as Nosferatu with Radiohead's music.
