Man Hospitalized After Shark Attack in NSW
A 23-year-old man was critically injured in a shark attack at North Shore Beach, Port Macquarie, around 11am on July 23. Emergency services, including multiple ambulance crews and a rescue helicopter, responded quickly to the scene, where the victim received treatment for serious leg injuries from bystanders before being transported to Port Macquarie Base Hospital. In response to the incident, North Shore Beach has been closed for at least 24 hours as police conduct investigations. This attack follows previous discussions by the Port Macquarie Hastings Council about improving emergency signage in shark attack situations. Local lifeguards assisted at the scene, noting the importance of public response in emergencies. The beach is a popular destination for 4WD driving and fishing, accessed by ferry.
